I was wondering if u mite of known the area with ur rock climbing talk from time to time and living in Bishop, Sheepshead is a great spot...

I've got about 100 days worth of climbing at Cochise over the last 12 years. Not quite a local but I know the whole area very well. Warpaint and Abra are 2 of the best routes in the country. When I was there last year I went over to the Muttonhead and did Tour Buses Welcome. Super good climbing and super sand bagged. Glad that Scott Ayers still has a little old school left in him. He did the FA in 2013. He also put up Stampede on the Sheepshead which I thought was super soft for the grade.

Havasupai was one of the greatest trips of my life. was there in the 90s before the flooding wiped out the terraces of travertine. Mooney falls was a real pucker climb and descent. Almost bought the eternal sleep ticket in the silver mine. Good times. Highly recommended. I think it's the only place where mail is still carried by mule. Helicopter in, ride in or hike. We hiked.

I'll add, have *family* in AZ (psuedo family live there, because my birth parents can eat a bag of dicks). They were in Press-kit, Flag, Sedona and now PHX area. It's lovely a few months a year, and the rest of the time is a damn arid hellscape.

Pretty amazing place for sure!
I've been a couple times with all my cliff jumping friends. I didn't have the balls to jump Havasu Falls. My comfort zone was maxed out at 60ft, and Havasu Falls are about 80-90ft or something like that. Bunch of people I knew did it but I didn't have the balls.

Some videos of the trips.

We hotboxed the cave behind 50 foot falls lol
Good times. Not supposed to have alcohol there, but we brought a few beers and plenty of everclear. We had some good times exploring at night. o_O

Hey, a shot of the Sheepshead! My home faces the west side of the Dragoons, so I see many of the domes, crags & spires of the Stronghold every day, I love my million-dollar view! And as a technical rock climber, the sights constantly remind me of good times had back in the day. At my age, my hard climbing days are over, but I have my eye on some long moderate climbs out there, just gotta hook up with other climbers willing to do them. Good news is I have the perfect crash pad for visitors, though you can also camp for free on either side of the Dragoons... but those primitive campsites lack the 8' pool table, home bar, BBQ area & view deck, lol. Well, you COULD drag a BBQ out there, but you know what I mean... here are some shots ripped off straight from the best guidebooks money can buy, the gal who compiled these guidebooks did a stellar job, and she can climb too! Here we go:

IMG_1641.JPGIMG_1643.JPGIMG_1656.JPGIMG_1652.JPG

Hmm, maybe there's a posting limit, so let me break these pics into more than one post... besides, I gotta take a phat piss and grab a cold beer outta the fridge, this posting is thirsty work, lol. Back in a flash with more Stronghold pics... :beathorse:

Whew, that's MO' BETTAH... back teeth were floatin' there for a moment, lol. Damn, this cold beer doesn't suck either... now, where was I? Oh, yeah, ripping off guidebook photos, lol. Say, that one hand mentioned Scott Ayers, there he is in that last shot... looks like a pretty cool route too. Here we go with some more shots... if you buy a guidebook for this area, make it one of these, as Ms. Bok did a great job on these books.

There's the Sheepshead in that last pic, you can see how it earned its name, lol. This is cattle country too, but the Sheepshead is a landmark here in Cochise County. Nice double rainbow in that shot, we see quite a few of those here when it rains, sometimes they arc clear across the sky...

Hmm, might be enough pics for a third round, then I'll post some shots taken from my home... but first, the guidebook photos, lol.

IMG_1609.JPG IMG_1611.JPG IMG_1625.JPG IMG_1631.JPG IMG_1644.JPG IMG_1650.JPG IMG_1604.JPG IMG_1628.JPG

Anyway, you get the idea... there is world-class climbing at the Stronghold, on appropriately-named Stronghold Granite, which in general is pretty solid and makes for good climbing. There are some routes with friable rock, total choss or rubble, but the good routes are quite numerous, and there are surely thousands of routes yet to be put up in the area. The Stronghold is not just one pinpoint location on the topo map, it is a complex... a huge natural stone fortress which covers square miles, and some of the approaches are difficult if not downright dangerous, lol. :confused2:

You climbers here at this site, let this be an open invitation to get yer ass down here and pull some routes... the Stronghold is a special place, spiritual in nature, with primo scenery & wildlife galore. I camped on the West Side for a week while waiting for escrow to close on my home, and I had a blast out there. Those who actually make the trek down here can either stay on my property or camp out there for free, makes no difference to me. Rules are simple at my home: no tweakin' crackerheads & no Epic Fagtard Darwin Failures, lol. Thieves & liars are not welcome either, but regular bullshitters who tell "stretchers" are considered to be entertainment... the taller the tale, the more points awarded, lol. Remember, creativity counts!!! :popcorn2:

OKAY, GUESS I'LL GRAB ANOTHER BEER BEFORE I POST SHOTS OF MY VIEW... IT IS FRIGGIN' AWESOME!!! I COULDN'T DO THIS IN KALIFORNIA EITHER, THIS WHOLE "HOME MOANER" NUMBER... COULDN'T AFFORD AN OUTHOUSE IN THAT SEASIDE GHETTO, LOL. :suspicious:

BACK IN A BIT WITH MORE PICS... :fencing:

Not even CLOSE to being drunk yet, but I'm working on it... I was 11-Bravo, USA INF, so my life is a range, and troublemakers get BLASTED, lol. :boom:

Only qualified rock climbers are allowed on the property, 10-4? Did I mention the FREE CAMPING at the Stronghold? FREE... yes, FREE!!! LOL.

Stop mentioning free camping at Cochise. The asshats are starting mi migrate from the East to West side of the damn park. Sheepshead looked like a fucking Walmart parking lot the last time I was there. lol

Where was I? Ah, yes, the view from my home... lemme dig up a few pics, I have a file somewhere in my computer, lol. :smash:

Damn, most of those are taken from the street... but you get the idea, the view is heller cool from my yard and view deck too, lol. Those power poles & lines need to go, but this burg is slow when it comes to underground electrical, so I live with it. That's my hammock stand in the yard, I have a primo Pawleys Island hammock for kicking it, lol. The yard looks like hell in that last pic, the shot must have been taken as the weeds were dying off, lol. Those citrus trees didn't make it either, citrus doesn't do well at this elevation... a lesson learned, and it only cost me $150, aye? Next time, I'll go with apple, peach or pear, something that does well at 3600' elevation... the hard freezes killed the citrus, especially when I failed to cover them a couple of times.

You folks who live out of state but are thinking of moving to Arizona for the sunshine, know that elevation is the key to comfortable living here, 10-4? My home in Show Low was situated between 6300' and 6400' elevation, while my home here in Benson sits on a terrace at 3600'---I would've liked to stay in Show Low, the dirt biking up there in the White Mountains is awesome, but it's hard to find steady year-round work up there, and I was too focused on finding work with my license (CDL-A), I should've just taken any job that came along. Meh, I still had an excellent two years up there, and met some cool people with whom I'm still friends... besides, I made $35K on the flip when I sold my forest home, so I had a good time. But I miss the tall pines...

GOOD NEWS IS THAT I CAN STILL DRIVE UP THERE IN A FEW SHORT HOURS, AND I ALREADY KNOW THE BEST RIDING SPOTS, LOL.

Point taken... but I'm stoked to even see free camping, in Kalifornia you'd have to buy your way into the joint, and there'd be a shitload of badges & revenue collectors looking for customers, lol. :confused2:

Hey, are you a rock climber? If so, ya gotta stop in next time you're down here, lose a dollar on the pool table, maybe pound some cold beers & BBQ, lol. Wait, you're also a pool shark... maybe I'll be the one losing the dollar.

I just posted some pics of the Stronghold (West Side), as seen from my home... or the street out front. I live on a quiet dead-end street, no traffic, no crime, no smog, no foul city attitudes, lol. Call it PARADISE!!! :usa2:

Would-be perps know that even Grandma is STRAPPED with a .44, and she "might just blow yer head clean off" as a form of redneck entertainment, lol. On the beach in Coronado, ya couldn't turn yer back on a valuable possession without it getting stolen... that Third World shithole, lol. :puke2:

Yeah, I love living in Redneck Land, it's the fucking bomb... all I miss from Kalifornia is the ocean, but I'll just cram as much sailing as possible into paid vacations, and fuck the rest of the bullshit out there. Especially with that Newsom scumbag and his fellow party members doing their best to ruin the state, those greaseballs. Meh, at least I lived there when life was still good, and the country wasn't being sold out by traitorous trash & scumbag politicians. My friends who ran the surf shop are still out there, but like all the old school locals, they're sick & tired of the socialist & globalist bullshit. :deadbanana:

Tons of free camping in California, we just don't talk about it. Unfortunately too many people already know about a lot of spots, but there's plenty people don't know about.

Yeah, I climb. It's the main reason I moved to Bishop.

You must not know Cali very well. I got free camping and great climbing every where I go. Except the Valley but I've done everything I want to do there. Before it was cool. lol
