I’m not sure where the tread wear thing is coming from. Fine. 2wd sliding and drifting will destroy tires. They’re a consumable, so fuck it. Lemme have my fun.

Beadlocks keep you from rolling by keeping the tire on the rim in hard corners.

Scenario: you’re in a pretty decent left curve at say 35 mph and the terrain is varied. The passenger side dips into an offcamber section of the trail and catches traction. Almost the entire weight of the truck is going to transfer to the outer sidewall of the passenger tires as they try to maintain the trajectory of the intended path. The rim is basically trying to push out through the tire.

One of two things can happen

Without beadlocks, the tires can slip off the bead and allow the edge of the rim to drop even lower in an off camber situation (placing the center of gravity and moment of rotation in reverse order) and cut into the earth (no more sliding) and cause a roll (some might call it a flop).

With beadlocks, your butthole puckers and you carry on about your day. Nervous laughter ensues.

You of all people should recognize the value of beadlocks, considering how many beads you’ve blown.

You better not be insinuating that I flopped because I didn't have beadlocks. Because thats just the dumbest thing I ever heard. Anyone would have flopped in that situation whether the tires stayed connected or not.

and wtf I've only popped beads in two incidents in over 6 years of hard wheeling. Both times from doing something dumb

This right here. When I was in high school this happened to someone I knew. It was an almost brand new Colorado that had 33's, lift, and I think coilovers. He was dicking around doing donuts in a grassy field when his tire slipped off the bead and his rim just sank into the dirt, and instantly stopped the wheel causing it to roll over. I've heard multiple stories of this happening to others too.

haha well I don't do donuts so I won't have to worry about that

That’s 2 more times than you would have with beadlocks. All I’m sayin.

Donut's, drifting around the corners. Same thing. I'm not saying you need beadlocks (I don't have them), I'm just saying that's what can happen if you roll a bead while cornering.
