I think the issue with a lot of these fab shops is A) they don't know how to run a business B) they over promise and under deliver all the time. Fab work takes time, but production fab shouldn't take near as long to deliver a finished product. C) they have shitty employee's because they aren't willing to pay for decent labor. And what the hell is so hard about running a decent fab shop? Make a good product, keep customers informed, don't get greedy. Seems like there's a big hole in the market waiting to get filled. #thatswhatshesaid
I don't quite get what makes shops like CBI have a wait list like 6 months out. When I worked at Poison Spyder, we were consistently 6-8 weeks out on most products, but the company was expanding it's workforce as fast as it was growing, so there wasn't any 6 month delays on products. I left in 2014, and there were crews 24 hours a day producing parts. Now they have multiple production locations and robots welding bumpers 10x faster than a person can. It's actually quite impressive.
