1st gen Runners have an access plate under the back seat for the fuel pump. no idea why they quit putting them in.

Because it added 67 seconds to the assembly time, and cost an extra 12 dollars.
Once you start thinking of vehicle design entirely in the terms of "how fast can it be put together on an assembly line", everything makes complete sense.

My sense of smell is basically nonexistent so unless it's really strong, I can't smell it. As for the video, it was basically dumping 150psi into the tank (no regulator on a borrowed compressor), but I think it would have vented at muuuch lower pressure based on how quickly it spit out that paper ball. It had almost no time to build pressure in the tank.

I scoped the filler neck all the way to the rubber connector between the filler and the tank and there's nothing obstructing the filler neck.

All that said, earlier this week I drove it about 200 miles in an afternoon and it took gas at a reasonable rate from a slower pump after that, so I have no idea what's going on. There's a station nearby that's got some higher speed pumps that I'm going to go try early next week when I burn some more fuel out of it to see if it really did "fix itself" somehow. Maybe me sticking high pressure air in the tank knocked a valve loose? No idea, but it's working(ish) so I'll call it a win for now, with fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed too early. Still not venting correctly.

Saw this on FB, thought about this thread

I was able to get these pins out with just a straight pick, but I need to get a set of those for other pin styles that don't come out so easily.

Turns out I enjoyed building that harness. What the hell is wrong with me?!

Finally got around to scoping the rubber hose that connects the steel filler neck to the tank ..and discovered that there’s some kind of liner that has started to separate from the ID of the hose. 27760F21-3EA3-413F-B914-CBD62F5A80F0.jpeg

I could have sworn I looked down this hose when I had the tank out but I guess I didn’t look hard enough. Anyway, new hose on the way. Fingers crossed that's the issue and I can be done with this.

Oh and for the record, this hasn’t stopped me from using 4 low, even if they’re mild trails.
