I'm at camp for tonight. It's on Andy. I'm 2 miles from shaver lake with almost no service. Please don't bring firewood. I'm camped next to enough dead wood to supply Burning Man.
:rofl:too late, I loaded up what firewood I had this afternoon, probably won't be enough for 2 nights, so I'll pick up whatever is good to use when I get there.

Sitting in Shaver Lake Pizza eating a calzone. Andy should be here in 30. I also stopped by the local fab shop today and made some new friends. I figured with the rate I break shit knowing the local welder wood be a good idea. lol

The rest of you have fun sitting at home taking about wheeling. lol

:beerscheers:

I'm expecting one or the other to chime in by tomorrow afternoon/evening. If we don't hear anything by Monday morning there may be an issue. We'll go from there. It's possible they finished swamp and decided to tackle something else. Weekend isn't over yet.

And jacado is a fucking idiot. Not only has he always been a 2wd wonder, he's not even there and making recovery suggestions.

The wide open spaces you guys have out west is the only thing I'm envious of.

Definitely not the gun laws though.

For reals on both accounts. Year round wheeling and camping. Gun laws, whatever, you get used to it.

We heard from @Tetten earlier. @theesotericone broke some spindle bolts again but otherwise they were good.

Spindle got welded up by a group who happened to come by with a Ready Welder. Andy and I had the whole thing off my rig and had all our batteries pulled when this group stopped by. I was asked if I needed help and when I heard Ready Welder I said yes please. In no time they had my shit welded beyond bomber. I offered up some cash for the field repair and they declined.

We camped pretty close to them so I walked over and offered some cash again. I was declined. The guy that did the welding simply asked me to help someone else out one day. We had a great discussion about how many fuckwads would drive right by someone broken on a trail. I assured him I never am, and never will be, that type. We had a beer and said goodbye.

This morning Andy and I get back to cell service land. @Tetten had a voicemail from a co-worker that had gone a little off the little road known as Wheeler Ridge. I also had a voicemail from a guy I know asking for help with this same recovery. Andy and I decided to go do the recovery. I was going that way anyway but Andy, again, went above and beyond. It was WAY the fuck out of his way.

We just got done with the recovery and I just got home. I got to pay it forward a little sooner then expected. It is what is is. Call it karma, kizmit, destiny, fate, chance or any other thing you want. I'm just stoked to have helped someone else within 28 hours of needing help. Call it karma neutral.

Oh, and that Swamp Lake thing. Yeah. We did Swamp, Strawberry, Mirror and Coyote. lol

Wild that you both got a call for the same recovery. Glad everything worked out for everyone. Looking forward to the story over a fire and some beers.

SO FUCKING JEALOUS!!
I still want to try to do another trail or two after Dusy this year.

Do it. Coyote is by far the best. That's mine and Andy's opinion.

I wasn't going to do it. I broke my LBJ bolts about 1/2 mile from Red Lake. That's the start of Coyote. I was so fucking pissed I had another failure I was done. Then Andy called me a pussy. Then I wheeled that shit, including gatekeeper, on a freshly welded spindle. lol

Let’s do it. You can take and extra day to make it happen. We can do Dusy way faster this year.

I'm already booked man. If what me and Andy just did in 48 hours is any indication the Dusy could take as little as 2 days. That would give me even more time to climb with my wife. lol

Swamp was a disappointment, it's basically the "gold mountain" of the long norcal trails, despite what the book says, it's only got a couple miles of crawling and obstacles even though the total length is 15ish miles. I think the total time rolling was around 5 hours, we ran the first 8.6miles in 3 hours.

Strawberry Lake was a joke, I could do it on my 2019 with no lockers or armor. We pulled up behind some overlanders half way through and realized it wasn't going to get harder, and it definitely didn't, A lot of people were camped at the lake since it's so easy to get to.

Mirror is no joke, it's short, but you have drive down a long gnarly hill to get to the lake and coming back up is a bitch, basically a mini Thompson Hill. I busted my driverside view mirror off and dragged the top of my chassis and roof rack driver and passenger sides. Dual case LOLO was damn useful keeping the truck slow and predictable on the worst obstacle, other wise the dragging could have easily turned into dents.

Coyote was hands down the best, a lot of good rock gardens and different line choices to keep things interesting, just hard enough so it's on the threshold of what's possible in an IFS vehicle.
