Is changing the gear oil in the front diff and T-case fairly easy?

1998 Tacoma 3RZ-FE

I have been watching YT videos, but would also like for advice on what to look out for, if any?

One guy in one of the vids suggested to remove the filler plug first to make sure that works okay and then remove the drain plug. Which makes sense.

Finally, is it really that rudimentary when checking for proper fluid level by using your finger?

If you're on a flat surface, you can fill until it starts to come out the fill hole. That's how I've always done it anyway.

And definitely remove the fill first. If it's stuck and gets stripped, but you already drained, you're in deep shit unless you have a second ride.

Thanks Danny!!! :beerscheers:

I can't work on it where I live... just nowhere flat here.

My sister is gonna let me work on my CV axles at her place... She has a flat driveway.

I'll be doing the gear oil change too.

Other than that, just about any other work, within reason, I can do where I'm at.

Free exhaust (cat back). Taken off at 60k miles. Good shape. Little surface rust. In Laguna Beach but I am all over OC for work and could meet somewhere.

They lady wants it level with tires n rims .. we do take it when we go hiking . That's the only time it will see dirt

You could probably do 5100s in the front and 5160s in the rear. The metal tech 2" LT coils for the rear always handled really nice for fire roads and handled the extra weight of camping gear, but were comfortable on the road empty.

I wouldn't get a spacer lift if you can avoid it, things will get real stiff.

Obviously the real answer is coil overs in the front for adjustability, 2.0s and coils for the rear.

All depends how much you wanna spend.

I really gotta pay attention to when the rockets launch. Saw the trail and then actually got to see the booster separation. Just randomly checking the sky because it's already a warzone of fireworks tonight..
