Smoking pork ribs

I heard that too. Ive been using 91 since i bought in 14. I was going to throw some octane booster in there to see if that deadens the sound. When me and @Tetten were checking it yesterday you can Get it ticking at exactly 2k rpms. So i googled that and started seeing tsbs repair for this issueMine both tick. Loudly unless I use 91. Seems to quiet it down.
Anybody know about "spark knock"? Might be the tick noise im hearing. Was just reading about it on tacoworld. There is a Tsb to repair with reprogramming ecu. Going to check ot out tomorrow
"Flutter/tick" noise when accelerating and above 2k rpm
Hi Tacoma World, I've been reading some forums about this "Taco Tick" that seems to be normal for tacomas. I think that what I have is something...www.tacomaworld.com
Are you guys describing that "tick noise" that sounds like worn valve lifters?Mine both tick. Loudly unless I use 91. Seems to quiet it down.

I know that some engines need their lifters to be adjusted roughly every 30k miles or something like that. It's a pretty common 4.0 issue.
HAHAHA, THIS is what I'm trying to say with the "Wall of Randy"!!!If you're getting a "spark knock" that higher octane fixes then you are likely detonating and destroying your piston(s). Is it only under load or all the time?
Retard your timing, run race gas, or drive with a vacuum gauge and keep it in the green.
If you are just hearing valve train noise then it might be time for a valve adjustment before the guides and seats burn.

For example, my 3RZ-FE needs shim adjustments roughly every 30k miles or so.

It's variable timing. Computer adjusts it as needed.

It's called the taco tick. Majority isn't spark knock, just common noise complaint that comes with the 4.0. I've got 160k on my Tacoma and probably close to that on the 4runner. If I blow up a motor in either one it's ls swap time.
This is what I was talking about. The variable timing for the camshaft and lash r two diff things that work in conjunction. U can adj the lash on the 4.0L, there r shim-less buckets under the camshafts that can be changed out but requires the removal of the camshafts. Its a massively time consuming process that is recommend as part of preventive maintains that requires measuring lash between cam lobes and buckets on specific cylinders based on timing positions to check said but unless there was something really out of the ordinary I'd never do it...
The SoCal guys will laugh at this
My lady just met Kyle yesterday for the first time, after listening to him and I talk for 20 mins, she turns to me and asks “So is he an asshole or what?”
I laughed my ass off how quick she picked that up
Uh ohMy lady
Haha. Took her camping for the first time, she’s excited to go again so that’s coolUh oh
I don't really get the asshole vibe off him. I do walk away once I've heard enough. My chick did say that Kyle talks A LOT when she met him.The SoCal guys will laugh at this
