I've never been through the Rubicon but it has always been on my list of trails to run. I was thinking of taking the whole family this year as it is toward the end of June which is right after my boys get out of school for summer. Has anyone ever done the Rubithon TLCA event? Or would you recommend going at another time and not going to the event. We have done Cruise Moab several times and always had a good time with the family so I was wondering since they are both TLCA events.

I’ve never done the Rubicon but I probably wouldn’t want to go during an event. Sounds like it’ll be slow and get old quickly. I’d rather go with a solid group of guys that are fun to be with but stay a small group. We had 5 guys on Dusy Ershim and it was a perfect group size.

That really was my thought as well. Especially since it is only one trail and while it looks like they do a staggered start, my guess is that there will be some pretty bad backups. But man the pics of the area are amazing. I love the mountains and rivers of the Seira's. Especially at the end of June when it's 110 in Tucson.

Skip Rubicon and do Dusy Ershim instead. It’s longer and doesn’t have any bypasses. I can’t wait to go again this summer. It’s still way up in the high Sierras with a bunch of lakes and streams.
If you haven’t already check out my trip report from last year.

Dusy doesn't open until August.

It's worth the wait IMO if you can only make one trip that far during the summer.

We need to set dates for it so I know how much time I have to get some more rock experience. If I can get 3 or 4 trails in before July (so I can spend July fixing and prepping) I should be ready for dusy this year.

I was originally planning to run the Rubicon during the rubithon next year. But after looking at pictures and everything I came to the same conclusion of fuck big events and groups. I'm planning to run it this year in late July or early August. Obviously not taking the bypasses because that's no fun

Haven't figured out a group yet but if you California delinquents wanna run it around then. Let me know.

Someday I'd like to run the Rubicon, but I think I'm gonna stick with less populated trails a bit. This year' I'd like to maybe check out the surrounding trails around Dusy Ershim, like Coyote Lake, Red Lake and Swamp Lake. Maybe you should join us for that instead?

The Rubicon is less popular in Sept and Oct. Although I did have a thought for the Dusy trip. We could run the Rubi Sat/Sun. Then haul ass over to the Dusy and do it. That would be the two premier trails in Cali in a week. I don't personally know of anyone who's linked them back to back. It's a lot of hard wheeling but it's a rad plan.

Throw Fordyce in there too.

If the water isn't flowing hard sure. I'm not sure my rig can handle those crossings if the CFM's are high. That's only for guys with 37's.:beerscheers:

We could call it The Last Truck Standing Run. Cause there's no way we all make it through that amount of wheeling. lol
If it was anything like the Dusy trip, I’m fucking solid. Literally I had zero mechanical issues to fix. This year I’m not expecting to be so lucky. Either way bring it on!
As long as someone has AAA to get me home I'm in. Hahahhaa.
Just fucking get AAA already!! Anyone that wheels should have a membership. It’s about as important as spare parts.

Let’s do it!!
