What all did you do? Hard to tell what you got going on besides some sort of modified steering column.
I was talking about the steering shaft/firewall seal modification. The orbital valve has domestic splines that come off said which had to b joined to the Toyota splines at the bottom of the steering column while changing said from the IFS to the SAS angle. In addition, there needed to be a new way to seal the firewall. Ended up using two different jeep steering shafts, then weld said to the OEM 4runner shaft that it's self was cut and the ujoint was removed and reused to joint to a section of one of the jeep shafts. Took the original 4runner firewall shaft pass through bracket and cut it, made/welded some sheet metal to said's outer edge and then used a 99 superduty's seal/housing while removing and fitting plastic part that's mounted to the ford steering shaft to the new shaft to complete the sealing process.

Random shit: buddy has the 97-03 f150. He just put full deavers on. Currently the fox shocks have about 3” of up travel showing on the shaft. Would welding longer tabs to the axle help give more up travel? I know it’ll take away ground clearance but it’s on 35’s. Or leave it alone and save up to put shocks through the bed on?

current plan is hybrid steel/aluminum bumpers. All winch and pull points are frame mounted and the structure under and between the frame can take a hit without the bumper. what's in the pics r just base to build off of and left a bit long until the next stage/idea is formed. Planning for flares to cover the added WMS. Thoughts....

What about basing a bumper around a hitch flip? 5K# tongue rated and frame mounted, the rest of the bumper can be bolted to the hitch.

Did a search didn't find close to and answer

I've got a winch with 95' of 5/16 steel cable. If I wanted to swap to 3/8" synthetic rope how long a rope should I buy?

I see 85' or 100' and I'm not sure if longer will spool up properly or bind.

my syn rope is longer then the original cord, u'll b fine with 100', the syn doesn't take as much room as the steel cable. Make sure u go over ur winch for any burrs from thM steel cable and clean them up. U should also make sure u cover the top of the rope, seen so many UV bleached syn cables from peeps not covering said shit, weakens the shit out of the rope....

Good to know, thanks!

My bumper is closed top so the winch won't be exposed to UV directly

Any advice about a syn rope, anything to look for or avoid, specifically?
What about shackles? Soft seem to be popular

I have used both Warn synth cable and Amazon synth(unfortunate abrasion issue with original Warn). Did a triple line pull once with the Amazon synth and didn't break it, so....
Not exactly scientific testing.

Soft shackles are great. However anything you hook one too that is steel(or probably even aluminum) needs to be 2x the diameter radius on the metal compared to the shackle diameter. So 7/16" soft shackles needs a minum radius of 7/8".
For any recovery I leave my steel shackles on the bumper and hook a soft shackles to connect whatever to it. Pulley blocks and winch lines to anchor points always get a soft shackle.
Well over 100 recoveries with this strategy and haven't had a failure yet.

Soft shackles are the shit. I use them whenever I can. Quick, easy, light and can be used on tube bumpers without the need for shackle tabs.
I just ordered 100' of 3/8" Amazon winch rope, a snatch block, rubber stopper, and a pair of soft shackles. I already have D shackles and a few different length recovery straps, a shovel and 48" hi-lift Jack.

Next up is a trasheroo once I get my rear bumper tire carrier

I don’t think I’ve seen a complete truck in 1 picture, it’s always small sections in each photo. How far is it from leaving the garage?

Ur probably right, really no way to show whats been done with complete truck pic, "hopefully" start painting this month. The detail shit is killing the time line as I'm having to make/adapted everything. Working on getting things plumbed, still need to build fuel tanks, along with a few million other things
Tiny Example:
