There's this little 5 mile trail tucked neatly away in the Stanislaus National Forest. I've been looking at it for a while. From the little research I did the trail is moderate if you take bypasses. It's "difficult" if you take the harder lines. I'm running it as soon as I can. I'm putting a feeler out to the Norcal and SoCal guys to see if anyone else wants to play.

Sonora should be open within a week or two. I know it's short notice and it will be even shorter notice once the pass opens. Who wants to get some wheeling in?

Memorial Day weekend? Probably would be packed though. I’ll be in Belize for 10 days in early June, so gotta plan around that too.

You should know better by now. @Hank is still broken in Utah, @Mike_taco4x4 needs a clutch, @Tetten is dealing with steering issues, @AssBurns had been lazier with his truck than I have been with mine. 3rd gets pulled Weds, but I'm chasing another issue in the front driver too. Thought it was the ball joints (and it was bad) but that didn't fix it. I can basically feel something on the floor board when I hit stuff on the road. Potholes, dips, bumps. Feels like something is loose but the usual shit you would expect isn't.

Caltrans expects it to be open that Friday. I think I have company that weekend though. Luckily that company wants to go camping so maybe we should just plan on Bishop for Memorial Day? See below also. lol

I really wanna go wheeling already. Hopefully my truck is on the lift next weekend to get it going.

I will be in Bishop Memorial Day weekend fishing.

You gonna have that truck? We can do some wheeling and some fishing. Speaking of fishing I haven't even bought my license yet. lol

My trucks been making a clunk in the rear for a few months. I'm pretty sure it's the heims on my upper links. I've had a few people look at it when off-road and of course it never does it when someone's watching. lol

Could be nothing. Could be something. I feel on in my left foot on the floor board. LCA bushings and ball joint are good. Just replaced lca bolts/cams. UCA uniball barely has maybe 1500 on it and the bushings are in good shape. All bolts torqued to spec. You know what, could be my steering rack bushings or bolts. I'll check those out this week.

Realistically, I can have the truck operational next weekend, just depends on my friend having the lift available. But, the truck is a trailer queen and 2 years expired tags. There are always a lot of cops due to Mule Days, and fish cops too.

Where are you planning on camping? If you bring the trailer queen there's plenty of parking at the beginning of Black Canyon. If you decide to trailer it up let me know.

I will be staying at Brown’s Millpond, across from Pleasant Valley. We usually go to the reservoir, Sabrina, Intake 2. Might try South Lake this time. I also noted your spot at the reservoir to try for a brown.

If you go to South Lake I'll be your tour guide. I know that lake as well as anyone on the East Side. In 2012 I had my best year ever up there. I landed 41 fish over 20". The largest one was a 9lb 6oz hog. If you don't mind walking I will put you on a lot of fish.

Fuck yes. I will try to make that our first stop on Saturday morning. I wanna say we usually head out around 9am. Just depends on how much I drink at night.

I've had my eye on that trail as well and I'm down, but booked until at least mid-June

Well let's make it happen then.

Yeah besides Memorial Weekend, I’m booked till at least mid-June as well. I’d be down to try something for late June.

OK. Let's shoot for the 3rd weekend in June. That's the 22nd-23rd. I'll also probably have that Friday off if you guys can swing an extra day.

That might actually work. We're planning an "overlander" family trip up to the mammoth area around that time. I might be able to dip out and do some wheeling while we're up there. Only problem is, I'm planning to continue on up to Oregon and Washington after the rest of them head home so I can't be destroying my rig.

So you're saying you want to run it again the 3rd weekend in June right?
we'll see.

The trail is actually pretty easy but short. we ended up doing it twice, I had only 3 wheel drive the second go round. I just ended up in a bad spot because the granite was wet from a hail storm and I slid into an edge. I Also did wheelers the next day in 3 wheel drive..

Here's one of the few big scary obstacles

I had to wench this spot on Wheelers becouse my rear diff was hung up and 3wheel drive..

Well, we could easily do both those trails in a weekend. Run Niagara Rim Saturday AM, play in that area till 2 or so. Then head down 395 and camp at the start of Sand Canyon. Then do Sand Canyon to Wheelers Ridge Sunday AM. Everyone would be heading home by 1 or 2.
