Well, we could easily do both those trails in a weekend. Run Niagara Rim Saturday AM, play in that area till 2 or so. Then head down 395 and camp at the start of Sand Canyon. Then do Sand Canyon to Wheelers Ridge Sunday AM. Everyone would be heading home by 1 or 2.
Count me in (let’s just hope this misfire doesn’t come back) **fingers crossed**

Sweet. We'll have plenty of miles Memorial Day weekend to make sure that misfire is gone for good. I'll also have that Friday June 21st off as well. Just sayin. 4 10's is such a great summer work schedule. lol

I wish I could do 4 10’s. That’s my eventual goal, but in the meantime while I’m trying to build my business, I need to be available most fridays. If I ever get to the point where I can hire an assistant/partner, then I’ll be more than happy to do 4 10’s

I ran this trail last year just as the Donnell fire was starting. We were actually wheeling in smoke. It was one of the big fires last year and by the time it was out, the upper half of this trail was in the fire zone. Not really sure how the trail fared in the fire, but you might want to call the ranger to make sure the trail is even open.

The fire stayed to the other side of the highway, I was there a week and a half after the fire passed through that area.

The trail is open. Thanks for the heads up though.

I'm down for the June 22nd weekend

Sweet. It'll be a fun time.

Where are you coming from? We might end up doing Wheeler Ridge on Sunday. It's 2 hours south and picks up out of Swall Meadows.

I'm in Livermore (east of SF) so I'll be coming from the west and can't really justify the 6+ hour return trip from a eastside trailhead. We'll just camp somewhere off 108 and lollygag back on Sunday.

Makes sense now that I'm realizing you're in Bishop. I was wondering why it mattered if 108 was closed! Don't tempt me with your eastside goodness - between the skiing, climbing and wheeling I'm not sure I'd ever leave!

The climbing is why I moved here. The fishing and wheeling where just bonuses. lol

What type of climbing do you do?

Wheeler Ridge is just north of Bishop out of Swall Meadows. It's one of the harder trails we have. It heads up Sand Canyon trail, which is easy, then branches off directly up the backside of Wheeler Crest. That's the big ass ridge on your left as you drive north of Bishop. Then it comes back to the front side of the ridge and continues to a lookout. Or you can keep going another mile to an old mine site. It's a fun trail.

Fuck there's fishing too??

Full disclosure, I climb and wheel the same way - I'm not gonna crush it but I'll sure as shit have fun. Which for me means moderate trad where there won't be any fucking bros or drones or bluetooth speakers or people if I can avoid it. Hermit at heart.

The alpine trout fishing is some of the best I've ever seen. The lower stuff is also pretty damn good. I've caught a lot of very large trout around here.

I learned to climb in the Gunks. I used to be a trad purist. I never clipped a bolt that wasn't on a trad route until I went to Protrero Chico back in 2005. That made me realize I was missing out on pure fucking fun. I spent 2 months down there and never once thought I was going to die.

Then I made it to Bishop that spring and went to town in the Sierra. Alpine rock has always been a huge draw for me and this place has first ascent for the next 1000 years. I also started to boulder a bit and realized that it's also fun as hell. Now I do it all.

I have a bouldering circuit in the Happies that I do all the time. I just pop in my earbuds and listen to what I want. Then I casually float the V6 that the hipsters are flailing on. It always puts a smile on my face. lol

If you ever want to get out here and climb let me know. I'm solid on 5.10 trad. Meaning I haven't fallen off that grade in 12 years. I can climb a bit harder when I need to. lol

3 weekends. The trip is June 22-23rd. I'll have the Friday 21st off though. If you want to go we could head up Friday and camp there.

Okay the kid is out the 14th. We've been working on a mammoth area trip but no plans have been set. This would be the week after that and I plan on tooling around the area for another week anyway if it does happen.

That being said. I'll be addressing damage from this past weekend, some rubbing issues, and the locker soon.
