I need to get some new lights for the front of my truck since the new bumper is much lower profile and my HID's are too big to fit anywhere. I'd really like to get some Baja Designs lights since they are by far the highest quality lighting option. They are just out of my budget at the moment. So I am looking for recommendations on some other brands that are cheaper but are still decent quality. (not some janky rebranded china light).

I only have room for 2 sets of pods or something of similar size (4" max width), and maybe a small single row light bar above the winch. I need a few different patterns. I am thinking about doing the following:

- 2 Driving Light Pattern Pods on either side of the winch
- 2 Wide Angle/Fog Pattern with amber lenses tucked under the bumper
- 1 10" Single Row Spot Beam pattern above the winch.

This should cover all the areas of light I need for crawling and some go fast stuff. If I were to go with Baja Designs for all these, I'd be spending over $2k on lights. Definitely not in the budget any time soon. Suspension, tires, and axles are a much higher priority right now.

Fucking overlander, gonna ask what size tire next?

Save your pennies for the BD squadron pros. Two of those and you won’t need anything else

If you have to have something in the meantime then cheap ass amazon Chinese lights to hold the place for the BD lights

We have a KC light guy in Tucson. If that is a brand that you would consider I'll reach out and see what he can do.

I really want the Squadrons, but I can't justify it right now. I need to build up my savings and do some projects on the house first. I want them SOOO bad though.
Cry once and go BD.
I really can't justify them right now. To many other things I need to save my money for right now. Eventually I'll get some BD's, but it's not in the cards right now.

I haven't really looked into their LED stuff, but I am definitely open to KC's if they aren't insanely expensive.

Start off with one pair of squadron pros. Mine were under $350. After you see how bright they are, reassess if you actually need more.

And don’t get squadron sports. Don’t cheap out, it’s worth the difference

Really not a bad idea. I can afford doing one set of Squadron-Pro's. I'm sure they are gonna be really nice. Might just get a cheap spot beam light bar for the long distance/high speed stuff. The Amber fogs are mostly for the slow speed/street/daytime dusty driving stuff.

I got the driving combo. Ask @4runner DOA how bright they are

I got a cheap ebay 52" light bar on top of my car..... fuckin hate it.

As everyone else has been saying: buy nice or buy twice (or buy once cry once)

I think my light bar blinds me more than actually shooting out usable light.

Bro bars seem to reflect more on the hood than anything. In the grill or fog light location ftw

Yeah I’ll never have an LED light bar up above the windshield. I tried to convince my brother and dad to not waste their money back when light bars became all the rage. They both had theirs stolen and both had no desire to replace them because they sucked so much.

they were bright as fuck but we’re useless for the person driving. If they turned them on while someone is on an obstacle, it would like it up really well

This weekends Rubicon Trail was the first time I've turned it on AND it was actually useful.

Given that we drove through to late night, both me and a tacoma had light bars, so we light up obstacles for everyone else during sketchy sections.

BUT..... I believe a decent set of BD lights up front would have done a better job overall as their beam patterns are true and correct, versus the shitty ebay chinese shit.

Pretty bright.

I've got a set of 20w Iggy pods in my bumper fog holes. Bright as fuck. I'd have to see if I can find his website though since I got them off a tw group buy. Been running them a couple years and for 100 bucks for 2 they've held up to the abuse. No leaks, no condensation. Been through all sorts of weather, dirt, and mud.

Have you looked for used BD stuff? The Baja/desert forums, CL, and Fb marketplace seem to have lights come up for a reasonable price somewhat regularly.

another vote for BD. I have them and for reals two are plenty. a 20" in the grill with mixed lenses is ideal.

BD if you want light to stay with you beyond 30 mph. I only run BD cause the other stuff just doesnt do well at speed unless it’s quality stuff.
