My coworker got me a knife for our gift exchange since she sees me sharpening my work knife at least once a week. I spent the better part of half an hour with the medium stones alone trying to reshape the bevel to get a decent edge on it. Worst edge and bevel I’ve ever seen come on a knife out of the box. I could run my finger over the blade lengthwise (big no-no) with decent pressure and not worry about getting cut. Granted, this isn’t an expensive knife but the edge was that bad.

This will get left in the 4Runner since it Is too big for EDC and has a glass breaker and seatbelt cutter on it. Just seemed like the perfect place for it.

You'll be happy with it then. I know some folks like longer blades, but in reality a 2.5-3" blade is almost perfect for EDC. If you ever want a great camping knife that can take some major abuse, check out the ESEE Izula II. I leave that in the door panel of my 4runner.

I keep a Kabar Becker BK2 under my truck seat. If it ever gets dull you can beat someone to death with the back side of it. It's nearly 1/4" thick. I use it as a prybar as much as a knife. I've literally pounded it into a tree to free my chainsaw when I forgot my wedges and I was doing something stupid.

Sharpmaker FTW. You need to pick up some diamond stones for reshaping the bevel.

Yeah those are some heavy duty knives! You can beat anything into submission with something like that. Great to have in the truck at all times. Not too big to be able to practically use it, but big enough to do some gnarly stuff with it.
The Izula is only a 2.65" blade, but it's prefect for almost all around the camp activities besides chopping logs. I've split many 2-3" logs with it when camping/backpacking and it still keeps going with no issues. It's by far my favorite fixed blade knife. I EDC'd it for years before I got a job that it became impractical to carry a fixed blade.

True, I like a smaller low profile knife but I can see a larger knife being preferred for various tasks. Mine is mostly a box cutter for general warehouse usage so I just don’t need/ want anything that size for daily stuff.

For bevels that are as fucked as this was, it would have been the one I started with but I used what I had and it eventually did the trick. I’d love to get the diamond stones to have a more well rounded sharpening kit.

At least one of the fixed blade knives is in the Tundra at all times, The Sig P938 or Sig NightMare are in my purse and the benchmade in my coat pocket in winter, and purse in summer. I need to wipe the dust off the handles of the knives pulled them out of the Tundra, Under my desk and between the mattress for this image. L to R Cold Steel Chaos, a no brand knife from El Salvador, A Buck Master 185 Buckmaster LT only 6038 made between 1986 and October 1989 I bought it summer of 1986, the last fixed blade is a no name from Taiwan. Any time I go into Canada, I need to remember to clear my purse and Truck :) or be paranoid as fuck if I forget...

Got my knife. First impressions I like it. I wish it had the kick on the spine for opening like my Kershaw, but the blade itself already looks better quality than my 30 dollar Kershaw. We'll see how it holds up to my typical abuse.

I just ordered a Benchmade Mini Grip 555 (sheepsfoot blade with Spidey hole instead of thumb stud, and S30V Steel), an Ontario at 2 with D2 Steel. The Rat 2 will be my work beater, and the Mini Grip will be my EDC.

1582915720125.jpeg I’m tired of polishing a turd at work with my Sharpmaker and not holding an edge past a couple days. The steel in the CRKT knife I use is chinesium pot metal and it’s a bitch to sharpen and won’t hold an edge.

I also got a leather strop, knife oil and a cheap torx hardened steel screwdriver set. I’m tired of fucking around lol.

I like that there are so many variants of it. The cheapo $15 one works for me but they make much nicer ones in better materials for different purposes.
I use a $15 CRKT m16 as my beat it, bend it and abuse it knife. A Benchmade triage is my main EDC though its a fantastic knife but $ so I avoid using it like a screwdriver.
Yea i have that M16 CRKT since my marine days. Only broken a few.

same here - I used to carry Spyderco in college (kept "losing" them for some reason), now I have a $19 M16 that I've had for 4 years - I abuse it like any EDC, and it's still great. I'll probably replace it with the same when it comes to that.

You won’t believe that I lost that knife during my move to the mainland. I’m not to happy I have had that knife since 2005

I'm pretty sure I lost my last Spyderco because some transient found my stash spot outside of the Charlotte airport (always forget to leave the knife at home)

Funny story, my case changer xx sat at the Honolulu airport parcel shipping service desk for a month. After getting firearms inspected and bulldog on the plane I went to go through security and had a knife in my pocket. I was in such a rush I put the wrong address and credit card number down. A month later I called and they had it on the desk. I flew back the next day and the lady met me at the baggage claim to give it back. She said they didn’t toss it cause I put it was a gift from my grandfather and he would kill me if I lost it on the shipping paper lol.

That Benchmade is such a good knife. I don’t own one but I’ve considered it many times. What made you go with D2 steel over the S30v option?
