Because so many of us have punctured gas tanks.

Okay there's @AssBurns but he's a little special sometimes.

It happens, and hopefully not to me. My damn luck it will anyways. The side tank is a shit design, taco lean. Besides more weight in the rear is a huge stability factor.

It's only an extra 3 gallons. Tacoma is stock 21. Seems like a waste of money.
It's safer in the event of a crash/rollover, but most importantly is it adds better weight distribution. Much more stable in the higher speed stuff when you have a heavy ass Toyota engine up front.

See above, but also :flipoff:

Maybe one day when I 4 link and coil over the rear I'll get a fuel cell.

Oh wait, the Tacoma is getting that, so I'll deal with the excess weight and ticking time bomb on the driver side for now with the t4r.

I'm on 33s now and will go to 35s with 4.88. it's better power without getting crazy.

The only problem I am worried about is noise. Aftermarket, especially Nitros can make noise under certain conditions. Typically hear about being at highway speeds and letting off the gas, will make a hum or whine sound.

Yeah mine can be a little whiney sometimes. Hard to hear over the mud terrains though. I just swap my gear oil every 4 trips or so to keep things fresh since it sees most of the load and heat in dirt and the weighed down to/from pavement at high mph for extended periods.

Gear oil is important. Once the break in is done, lucas gear oil. There's a lot of talk and nonsense about oils, and since frequent changes are easy for most of us, stick to what the race teams run. Oil change is cheap and takes an hour. Get an electric pump, otherwise you'll have to skip a day beating your meat because the forearms are on fire from pumping goo.

Takes no time to squeeze 3 bottles into the rear diff. My front is probably due though, I don't change it as often as the rear. Lucas is a 10k mile change but like I said I do the rear based in trips done.

A bit more info if anyone cares. My tacoma rolled off the line with 30" (265/70/16) tires with a ratio of 3.73:1 on a 4.0L 4x4 Double Cab Shortbed Off-Road Package

I'll add, socal is dry, if we saw mud and snow, then wider is more better. narrow helps turning forces and more contact pressure. In the rocks, skinny is fine, and weak axles and hubs are not with more weight.

Who makes a 285/80/17? I can’t find any online. I’d love to find a 35x11. I have the 285/75/17 which is a 33.8 x 11.2 but I’ll probably bump up to a 315/70 or 35 x 12.5 when the time comes.
