Last winter was fucking ugly. Got cold late but we were witch's titty cold for January, and February.
I love Saskatchewan. Where I live is right where the prairie turns to shield. Go south 5 min, bald fields.

Once they age out of that they mostly just drink Listerine or hand sanitizer (yeah that's the truth) and wander around homeless complaining about the white man and his injustices.
Fyi: there's half a dozen reserves within an hour of where I live. Most of it is contained within the reserve.

Appreciate the break down on that...man its almost fictional the way they are described, yet crazy that is how it is. We got res's over here in AZ and I try to stay out of them unless I have to pass through which is pretty seldom. Its sad to hear that they are on a self destructive path up there in Canada, but hell many of them out here have little ambitions either. It does make you wonder if their population will suffer in the long run or if they will always be around with this mentality.
They have ridiculous opportunity here.
Certain tax exemptions, post secondary education funding, etc etc ad nauseum infinity.
The issue is cultural. They as a separate society won't take responsibility for themselves at large and blame their issues on other groups of society. They don't raise their children for success. . .
I could spend hours telling what all the issues are in their modern culture. It's all interwoven and it keeps these folks from being outstanding members of society. The few that break the trend are formidable people in their industries.

We have a few tribes out here. The responsible ones typically leave the res and do their own thing. Like @Slim-Whitey said, they have SOO much opportunity and most of them let it go to waste. Something good that the tribes have done in more recent years, is they do not let you receive the tribal income unless you get your high school diploma or equivalent. Some of them can't even get their damn GED. It's pretty sad actually. Some of the tribal members get over $100k a month just because they got their high school diploma. Seems like most of them are still constantly broke and have complete shit credit even though they make more in a month than most Americans make in a year. Some of the other tribes are "only" getting like $10k-30k/ month with large year end bonuses. I had one recently come to be to buy a house. She made almost $30k a month. At the time, she just got her monthly paycheck and a $35k year end bonus 5 weeks ago. So within less than 60 days, she received almost $100k in income. Wanna guess how much she had left? Less than $1,500!!! I have no freakin clue how she spent that much money in such a short amount of time and had nothing to show for it. She owned a car, and rented a place with her boyfriend and in-laws.
From what I've experienced with reservations is there is a lot of wanna-be gangsters (and actual thugs), lots of trash, some high end houses that are completely trashed, lots of drunks and drug addicts, and broken down vehicles and buildings. Basically it's like a 3rd world country with constant residual income. Pretty sad actually. Some of them are doing really well though. They take the opportunity to invest their time and money, and do a lot to help their communities.
