what do you want to do with it? looks decent, might be a good flip or dirt limo, fire road romper. Rust free and no obvious hack jobs on the body? ...party on!

That’s a nice looking 4Runner. I hope the knock isn’t something major.

Not from photos and one owner. I will crawl under it tomorrow before handing over 10 C notes to the owner. We have fire roads and minimal off road here in the Puget Sound area.

Thank you ideas! What is a good motor to swap in? My total budget is 5K for parts atm, labor I know enough to fix most things with time and rented tools (for odd things)
high stall when you are ready to romp, switch off when back to civilized mode.

3.4 is a direct bolt in to the 2nd gens. You'll have to look into what harnesses and stuff but the motor mounts don't need to be changed. 3.0 is known for head gasket issues. If he blew the HG and overheated you could have issues.

I agree with Danny. A 3.4 is a great swap for those old 2nd gen runners

Thank you both! I was poking around on line and there seems to be a few companies that sell sub 60K mile JDM import motors for 1k-1.5k are these worth the effort? It has been forever since I have worked on something old and that has issues not 100% known to me :)

Yours is probably a 1995 since 96-02 is 3rd gen. 2nd gens have torsion bars instead of coilovers in front. The suspension options are a little more limited. Lots of drop brackets or full LT kits and no bolt in stock replacement coilovers. The aftermarket on these isn’t as good as 1996+, but what’s out there is a lot more affordable.

You should be able to find a fully rebuilt 3.4 between 800-1500. You can down here in any case.

well.. I now own a 25 year old money sink with 125771 miles and a grenaded 3.0 frame has super minimal rust on the spare carrier (under neath) lights all work, windows switches all work the back seat looks new. Black exterior Brown/Tan interior. I would post photos but phone is in the truck and I am tired. The fun will start this weekend :)

Now to look at the Lexus 4.0 V8 Swap. This f'n thing was my super charger budget :) Just love how small it is and will fit where the Tundra Can't even with compression body modifications.
that's the spirit!
