Went out to unit 10 where we elk/deer hunt to do some scouting and glassing. Brought the CZ 455 22lr to hopefully kick up some rabbits. First evening was a success but the second we were kicking some up but no good looks. Think they got wise after their buddies got smoked the day before. Have them in a brine and will roast these up tonight. Great weekend of hunting. shooting, camping annd drinking!

Thinking of picking up a hunting shotgun. About the only thing I don't have in the collection.

I got that same tent. I love it for what it is. Small and light enough for backpacking but still big and strong enough to put up with my abuse of kids and until recently a big dog. Good I’m shitty weather too

I like it and have had it for 4-5 years now and it has been great. Needs a good cleaning after this trip, it is so dusty up there and everything has a layer on it now.

Cooked up the rabbits tonight for dinner! Brined them for 48 hours then fried them quickly until brown all around and then braised them until done! Cooked up some white and sweet potatos with parsnips for a side. Used the brine to make a gravey while adding ginger snaps as a thickening agent. One tasty meal! Need to go get some more!

Went up to Unit 10 to help with a friend's elk hunt. Great camp spot up on the Big Bo ranch but after only seeing 4 elk in 3 days we moved east in the unit towards Williams, AZ. The last pic is of his elk he got tonight! Nice shot on her on a run! It's going to be a long night but it will be worth it!

A little jealous.

Is that elk hunt on public land?

And what kind of hunting shotgun you thinking about? I have a Benelli Montefeltro and love it. I really hope I can get somebody to adopt me to tag along when I move to Kentucky since I never done big game hunting.

Yes, public lands!
I love my Benelli sporting clays, would like one of their pump actions for rabbit and other small game.

What round for elk, and what mind of meat yield do you get for either a bull or cow elk?
I usually take my 30-06 but now that I have the 300 WM, I may take that but it is heavier. I would say 30-06 with 165 or 180gr bullets, you can always find that caliber in the stores in case you forget/need ammo.
Never hunted a bull but a good size cow elk you can get 225-260 pounds of meat. Bull would probably 400 pounds. We did not bone out the neck or the ribs due to being so late and being tired. Her lover alone was probably 15lbs. It's s small horse.
