Are you implying that I should put a 1000hp big block into my POS 4runner?!
If so I like your optimism, but never gonna happen lol
planting seeds, lighting fires...etc.

Good lord I want to be able to call up an engine builder and tell them "you have 20k, go nuts, make me happy..." A mudder engine would be awesome in the sand. 1000hp @ 5k, high stall converter, the rooster tails would be visible for miles. It'd look like the sand storm from the mummy!

Got some progress on the Ford 9" housing that I've had sitting around for the past 6 months. Finally got the upper link mounts finished, and the truss is 90% done. Just need to cap the ends once I figure out exactly where the brake caliper brackets are going to go.
Also got the axle shafts ordered finally. I'll get the brakes ordered tomorrow. I'm planning to use the 4th gen 4Runner/ 1st gen Sequoia rear disc brakes. Reason for those is same lug pattern, and common parts availability. And if I really wanted to, I could do the whole drum in hat parking brake setup. I plan to just do a line lock for the brakes as a parking brake. Obviously not the best long term solution, but I don't plan to park on slopes for a long time, and if I do, I'll chock the wheel. Luckily I have auto trans so this really isn't much of a concern at all.

Up next is brakes, brake lines, lower link mounts, shock tabs, limit strap tabs, and coilovers.

I've got a set of rear axles in the garage. Was keeping them as spares, but I think if I start breaking rear axles I'll probably start looking into a new rear end.

Semi-float axles? Am I missing something? Why not move over to full float?

Because I don’t want to spend $5k on an axle right now. I could convert to full float but that’s like polishing a turd. This will be plenty strong for now. Once I get my next rig built, I’ll build a FF Spidertrax 9”.

Damn... Shoulda ordered these a while back. Good thing I didn't wait any longer. I was hoping to get this thing under the truck within the next month or two.

yeah everything is starting drag out over here, too. (we're behind you all in these delays, but they're everywhere now, apparently)

Ha! Fair enough. Keep the weight low and you really shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Seriously considering a JeepSpeed Jaz Fuel cell before I do this axle swap. Reasoning behind this is two main reasons:

1) It isn't as wide as the F150 tank I have now. I want to push my axle back another 3-4" so I get a longer wheelbase, better departure angle and most importantly more clearance for up travel with longer shocks and bigger tires. Right now I have my axle pushed back as far as I can without hitting the axle on the crossmember/fuel tank at full bump. I'd like to keep the same up travel but right now I have already tubbed as much as possible with 35's and 12" shocks and I am already into the rear door and seats as my limiting factor. Only place to go now is back more (already pushed the axle 3" back.)

2) More capacity. With the F150 tank it is only an 18 gallon tank so capacity is pretty limited, but also due to the flat, wide shape of the tank the actual usable fuel capacity is limited to like 14 gallons before it starts starving for fuel in hard turns or steep hills which is super sketchy if I lose engine power (losing power brakes) on a hill with my family. I have to take spare fuel with me on trips which is just a pain in the ass, so might as well go with higher capacity and not have a 5 gallon fuel tank sitting in the back of the truck.

I think this is the best of both options of more clearance and more capacity that I am looking for. I'm always looking for used parts so if anyone knows someone getting rid of a Jaz JeepSpeed fuel cell let me know.

I may just buy this TMR mount or make my own.

could you resize the wheel well for up travel?

Looks like Oct 17th is when I am scheduled to take my truck to Caleb over at Hot Metal Fab to get the motor swap done... Pieces of the puzzle are finally coming together
He is also going to get my LT parts cut and bent up for me to weld up and install when I bring it home.

Once it gets back to me I'll be working on a few things:
  • Weld and install front LT
  • Finish 9" axle
  • Fuel Cell
  • Rear coilovers
  • Upgrade steering
  • Full Cage (hopefully this season)

Maybe if I'm lucky I can actually drive this thing this season...

Oh man! Just got an email from Currie. Looks like I should have my axle shafts delivered tomorrow. And brakes should be here on Thursday. Looks like if I have some time this weekend, I can get everything mocked up and get the files drawn up for caliper brackets to be cut out. Robert finished my 3rd member last week, and is bringing me the 3rd and lower link brackets I need this weekend too.

I might actually have this axle done ahead of schedule now. :afro:
