cbechtold's Long Travel IFS Crawler Tacoma Build

The trailing arms with coilovers are something I’d love to do to the 4Runner one day but the shock intrusion in the cargo area is tricky to maintain interior functionality for my application. How far forward does the front trailing arm mount go and what length links are they?

Responsible Adult, and why I am not one.

Congrats man, vehicles come and go. These hobbies of ours always take a back seat to family responsibilities. Your thread title is kinda ironic now though :flamethrow:

Some 3G Tacoma oil change items. Some I need for myself, and some for my buddy who is new to DIY work. I’m going to post the links here and have him order a couple of the items. Crush washers https://a.co/d/6FKKREn Filter housing tool https://a.co/d/8wwivzU Filter elements...

    eimkeith stuff!

I never installed this damn thing yet, lol. I fixed the wagging rear end issue by replacing rear LCA with a heimed version. The bushings on the oem LCA’s were toast!

    My (actual) budget build.

For slow stuff they do alright but from what I’ve seen they like to break at the eyelets if you beat on your vehicle. I’ve seen front shock lower eyelets broken I’ve personally had it happen on my 3rd gen T4R on the rear and stopped buying them because of that. I have extended bump stops and the...

Passenger BMC on the turd gen Tacoma. Also did pinch weld and trimmed some fender flare plastic ahead of some17x9 -38 offset SCS Ray10 wheels that are eventually going on. Driver side will have to wait. I can’t work in the garage too long without losing interest in being out there when it’s hot lol.

Is there a go to online source for Genuine Toyota parts?

I used to use Camelbak but the shipping charges are above average in my experience. I’ve been using McGeorge Toyota on the East Coast for a few years. The delivered price always seems to be a little less. There are a couple international (UAE) options that have the cheapest shipped prices but...

Tools and Shop Talk - Opinions, Thoughts, Reviews, B.S., etc.

So the 4Runner has been driven 1-2 times a week since getting the Tacoma a couple months ago. Battery was dead the other day so knowing I might run across this issue more often I picked up a Noco GB50 jump pack. These things are awesome! Started up instantly with no hesitation. Definitely...

Yeah this site is pretty damn slow traffic wise but it’s got its appeal, especially for people not interested in heavy moderation

    #fucktw and useless bullshit

Same. I just picked up a 2016 Tacoma and don’t know much about them so there’s some good info for dummies like me. Lots of dumpster fire posts and too many sensitive personalities. Otherwise, I’ve always used TW for the classifieds and check in on the Long Travel section.

    Knife Talk

I thought about sending it in under warranty but the shipping cost to get it there is as much as a couple replacement springs on Amazon. Placed an order yesterday and I’ll have them later today actually!

    Knife Talk

My mini Bugout (work knife) made it 2.5 years and today the axis lock springs gave out. One was broke in half and the other one was cracked and barely in 1 piece. OTOH, I’ve no problems with my mini Griptilian, which I’ve had longer but as an EDC. It doesn’t get opened nearly as much as my work...

    CV Boots cracking yearly

Inner boots the only ones you’re having problems with? Have you done the boot slide mod?

    CV Boots cracking yearly

I take it you’re throwing on aftermarket boots every year? OEM boots are known for having much better quality rubber than aftermarket. It sounds like it’s worth the extra cost. Rebooting axles aren’t a fun job.

    Here we go again....

I remembered commenting on this recently and had taken this photo of my cargo vent after a Big Bear run last month. Looks like I’m due for a replacement myself. You can see that it’s only accumulating in the corner near the vent.

Anyone in the market for a wall mounted Branick spring compressor? They don’t sell this cheap too often. I saw this one on OfferUp for $300 in Riverside Check out this item on OfferUp. https://offerup.co/Ew0ySUhDfDb

    LT99 Bandaid Thread

Depending on your timeline to throw those coilovers in the rear and notch the frame, I wouldn't even bother with the sheet metal and up travel with those Ranchos and factory bump stops. Assuming you weren’t ever throwing coilovers at the rear, I think it’s easier to add a small bump extension...
