On the Gladiator front, now I have to figure out lifting a solid axle truck. Time for the link calculator I think, since jeep forums are even more retarded than #fuckTW.

It's easy as fuck.
Longer links, move the crossmember back, cut the shit that need stop be cut for longer coils/shocks, and ditch the jeep steering.

Congrats. Jeep did most of the leg work in building a solid axle truck, they just cheaped the fuck out on the axles.

So, while you're there, you might as well ditch the 30 and especially the fucking 35 in the back (I know the JLs use a 35 unless specced otherwise).

Steering I'll have to research, but otherwise that's about what I thought.

Good news is the broverland edition Gladiator comes with D44s on both ends, so 34s will be easy, and 37s are just a re-gear away. Which HH6 has already approved so that I can keep common wheels/tires with the PandaTaco when it's back on the road on 37s...

Gonna be a fun build to watch. Glad you decided to do it here and not the heep forum that tcbob owns.

There was zero chance of me doing anything else, we'll see if I end up a Solid Axle convert, having both platforms to work with.

Incidentally, anyone want to OEM jeep wheels and skids?

Fuckin jeep. Selling shit axles and then marking up real ones.

For the steering, NWF and TMR offer a hefty upgrade kit for the JKs, I'd imagine the JL and gladiator will be similar.

Oh,another thing, you'll need a new rear driveshaft and a slip yoke eliminator. Although the 4:1 241OR might already have one. I can't recall.

Our project manager at work used to DD a jeep, then he bought a used raptor. He says he can barely stand driving the jeep anymore just because of the solid axle up front.

There's a reason most things moved to IFS.. it's not a miserable fuck to drive.

Yeah, hitting bumps and shit with the solid front axle its definitely kinda shit. But basically stock suspension is so much better behaved on-road than highly modified that it's not a true comparison.

Lol no.

Ifs became a thing because of unsprung weight and packaging,, parts sharing across multiple platforms, and manufacturing costs.

When everything you build uses similar major systems, it's cheaper and easier to build it.

The industry doesn't care about ride quality, the market does. Ride quality is an ancillary benefit, but not the main one.

Besides, a quality set of shocks and springs solves solid axle ride issues.
So your buddy comparing a stock jeep to a vehicle with the highest quality suspension in its class is comparing apples to oranges.

I don't remember saying a stock jeep. I don't know what he's running but it definitely isn't a stock suspension.

3.73 gears and 31s from the factory.

Playing with a transmission calculator going to 35s and not regearing keeps me within 200 to 300 rpm through the low RPM range (up to about 4K) with an 8 speed I'm not sure I'll even notice that.

I don't understand why anyone puts 31s on vehicles billed to be an off road vehicle, with 3.73 no less. :headwall:
