I thought it was when close quarters, retreat (if possible) first with warnings and if still keep coming, then lethal force. Computer nerd too.

Retreat is easier said by politicians then done in practice.

If you are in your house where are you going to retreat to?
If you are outside and you retreat are you turning your back on the assailant?

Obviously if the assailant runs don't fucking shoot him in the back.

As @Itaro pointed out I would stay away from trigger modifications so get something that you can shoot well with stock trigger.
Glock factory sights suck and getting better sights or an RMR optic installed I would have my lawyer argue increases safety by allowing more accurate shot placement making it safer for property/people that are not the assailant.
Stippling the frame shouldn't make it inherently unsafe.

Basically I wouldn't touch the trigger or barrel.

This is my opinion and I am not a lawyer.
And a prosecutor is going to nit pick anything not factory and he probably knows less about how guns work then the person he is prosecuting for self-defense.
Same goes for opposing counsel in then inevitable civil case.

I am absolutely for doing everything possible not to give an advantage to anyone else, including modifying. Like you said, the basics like sights are incredibly important but ya, I don't need something that does 10% more pew pew for a chance to get rung up for bullshit. That's a no brainer.

Trijicon hd XR night sights a marked improvement over the factory night sights on the 19x which are an improvement over the regular glock sight.

@kasnerd if you do go down the ccw route in addition to in person training youtube is a solid resource for many training tips and dry fire practice drills etc. I'm still what I'd consider a reasonably new shooter but using resources on YT and range time my skills started to progress faster than just throwing rounds downrange at a silhouette target without purpose or thought. Not enough for me to get an ego about and think I'm some tactical Tommy pistol ninja etc but enough to first and foremost understand safety principals gain basic understanding of mechanics of behind draw target acquisition trigger press and reset to see marked improvement in accuracy and follow up shot speed I've still got a shit ton to learn and that will probably never stop. But at least now I've built up enough confidence in handling and basic fundamentals to want to advance into more specific self defense pistol classes and not feel like an out of place noob and really get to learning how to dial in the fundamentals and technique

I did IPSC when I was in the Corp stock class/production. One of the scenarios that is still fresh in my cabesa and a lot of fun was (Bad oil change) you lay on you back under a short table (simulating a car) arms up to the sky, gun holstered two targets 10 yards away and 4 or 5 feet apart. You had to double tap each target. You could shoot of your back or roll over to your belly. The fastest times recoded where of your back (upside down). We did the same drill over and over just kept adding variables to it. Mag changes,of the left then the right side. Lots of fun and lead down range back in the day. Thank you America.

I can't wait to start buying freedom toys. Looks like I'm probably gonna be a go to buy a plot of land in AZ from my grandma finally. It'll be awhile until I can build anything on it, but turns out all you need for an AZ license is a property deed, social security card, and a birth certificate.
