There’s a lot of anecdotal advice given regarding how to properly break in a gun (primarily the barrel) but for something that’s NOT going to be a ultra competition firearm I just go with lube and shootThere a proper break in procedure for a new gun?

meh..just needs a decent belt, holster extra mag carrier and CLP...good to go@85straight since we’re on the subject of a first gun we might as well talk about all the rest of the crap you’ll need:
Range bag. I know the XD comes with a lockable case but a proper range bag should be on your future.
Cleaning kit with proper size brushes/jags. I don’t like using the loops for patches. Oh get good cleaner and lots of extra patches and q-tips. For a cleaner I like m-pro 7 but keep hoppe’s no 9 also.
A gun safe
Quality ammo
Training (this is never ending IMO, refreshers are always a good thing)

I use 15w40 diesel motor oil..Was gonna clean mine earlier while I was taking pics, but I only have 130 rounds since the last cleaning and that Winchester doesn't burn as dirty as the aguila I was shooting before. Just needed some lube, which apparently I'm officially out of.
